Effect of Finerenone on Risk Biomarkers of CKD Progression: A FIND-CKD Analysis
- In patients with biopsy-confirmed nondiabetic CKD, KIM-1 and various fibrosis-associated markers (CSPG4, MMP7, LAYN) were downregulated by finerenone vs placebo. Renin was the most upregulated protein among >2,500 detected.
- Finerenone shifted risk biomarkers towards a generally beneficial profile.
- KIM-1 and LAYN were identified as top risk biomarkers for CKD progression across 4 trials and revealed a sustained treatment response to finerenone in FIND-CKD.
- The overall biomarker profile after finerenone treatment is consistent with amelioration of injury & fibrosis and better tubular function. The mechanism of finerenone in glomerular disease affects various nephron compartments.
